Ashleigh Alexandria (@thevirginartiste) speculates about a place where conditions are different for women and historically marginalized people. Through the painting of bodies and art direction she converges time periods—both past and present—that articulate an existence free of all restriction. Body painting is the rite of passage into her conceptualized world. She explores ideas of visibility in her blends, the camouflaging of bodies into backgrounds, with herself and other women as subjects. She also works in mixed media, paint on canvas, and co-founded Souldega, a New York-based women’s art collective. Her works can be viewed at www.virginarte.com.
